Venue: D.F. Cook Recital Hall, MUN School of Music The Living Songbook is an award-winning creative partnership between Newfoundland composer/pianist James Hurley and Irish tenor Dean Power, bringing new life to the work of classic Irish and Newfoundland poets, including W.B. Yeats, James Joyce, Michael Crummey and Duncan Major. Rooted in the belief that poetry and music together can carry human experience across the distances that geography, language, and politics create between people, The Living Songbook brings the art song tradition into the present tense. With their compelling performances, the duo has captured the attention of audiences across Canada and Europe. QVE is honoured to embark on its exciting collaboration with James and Dean to premiere newly commissioned arrangements for The Living Songbook, under the direction of Susan Quinn and Rob Pittman - sure to inspire all who appreciate good music, great poetry, and the deep historical and cultural connections between Ireland and Newfoundland. Free admission for kids 12 and under. Doors open 3 pm.
